Mission, Vision & Values - Hope Presbyterian Church

OUR MISSION:

Bringing the person and work of Jesus Christ to bear in every area of our lives and our community.

OUR VISION:

For all souls in and around downtown Lexington to flourish in a community that is rooted in Jesus Christ, compelled by His gospel, and strives for a more beautiful and just city.

OUR VALUES:

WORSHIP

We are a worshipping community whose rhythms reflect the transcendence and immanence of God.

We gather in corporate worship to reorder our lives unto God’s truth, through song, prayer, the sacraments and the preaching of God’s Word. Standing on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ, we speak the language of joy and lament, of confession and forgiveness, of song and stillness, and of feasting and fasting, remembering the reality of God’s work in our lives and in our community.

RELATIONSHIP

God created us, not for isolation, but for relationship — with God, with those in the church, and with those in our community.

It is in the context of authentic community that we learn about ourselves and the goodness of God. Relationship drives our community and serves as the primary tool for reaching the lost and the least. The primary expression of relationship is our Small Groups, where people gather regularly to share their stories, discuss a book or the sermon, and pray.

INCARNATION

The incarnation is the Christian teaching that God became a human being and dwelt among us. This truth compels us toward a life of servanthood.

Jesus Christ emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, so that we could have life through receiving and imitating Him. We long for God’s radical hospitality to shape the way we live, that ours would be a joyful and sacrificial hospitality. We want to dwell in our neighborhoods and be faithful to the place to which God has called us, to build relationships with the lost, the least, and the lonely. We are called to bring light into darkness, to pursue justice for the poor and vulnerable, and to actively seek reconciliation between divided peoples.

BEAUTY

We believe there is a place for beauty and mystery in the church and in our lives, and that such things ultimately point to the person and work of Jesus Christ.

We were made for glory — to behold it, enjoy it, and long for something more because of it. This is not an endeavor reserved for the artist but for all of us because, in many ways, we are all creators in the places in which God has called us. As God’s image bearers, we have the glorious responsibility of influencing our community through our imagination and work.
